You Are Not Alone!

1 Kings 19:10 KJV

… and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

One of the enemies greatest tactics is to convince you that you are all alone. This is never true! You hear Christian’s talk this way sometimes. They come across like it’s them versus the world. Any Christian that believes this is true has bought a lie from the devil. If you are a Christian, you are never alone!

This is how Elijah felt in our passage above. In 1 Kings 19:10 he said, “…. And I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.” Elijah, at God’s direction, had just challenged the prophets of Baal. God had moved miraculously and sent fire down from heaven. After this, the rain came and ended the devastating drought they’d been in. You would think it would be celebration time, but it wasn’t!

When King Ahab told Jezebel all that was done by Elijah, she wasn’t happy. She sent word to Elijah that she would have his head by tomorrow! This brought Elijah to a low place. Elijah even came to the place where he asked God to take his life (19:4). As usual, God showed up!

Elijah repeated his claim of being the only one left in v.14. In v. 18, God said, “I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” Do you see this? While there was 7,000 others who had not bowed to Baal, just like Elijah, he thought he was all alone! Immediately following this, God connected Elijah with Elisha, his faithful armor bearer.

Regardless of how you feel today, you are not alone! Not only are there others just like you, who are committed to God and his ways, but God is also always there for us! One of Jesus’ names is Emmanuel, meaning “God with us” (Matt 1:23). We’ve also been given a comforter, the Holy Spirit, who is always here to help us (John 14:26).

We are not alone! God is with us and for us!
