The Wisdom of God

Proverbs 4:7 KJV

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

In order to live our lives successfully and accomplish the will of God, we must have the wisdom of God. Many Christians love God and desire to live for him, but have no idea as to which direction to take and which decision to make. You can have the wisdom of God in every area of your life! Wisdom is available!

Nelson’s defines wisdom as “the ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding.” Wisdom could also be defined as rightly applied knowledge. Today, you may have knowledge of many different ways you could go, but the wisdom of God will lead you down the right path for your life.

Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom.” Principal here means “first or beginning.” We need the wisdom of God to be successful in accomplishing the plan of God. Life is full of many choices. There will always be many directions you can go. Wisdom will help you choose the right and best direction for your life. This is why it is important to make wisdom a priority!

How do you get the wisdom of God? Nelson’s also says “the first principle of biblical wisdom is that people should humble themselves before God in reverence and worship, obedient to His commands.” The wisdom of God comes from God. The word of God is God speaking to me. The first step in acquiring the wisdom of God is to surrender your life and every step to God’s word, whether the written word in the Bible or the spoken word to your spirit. Either way, you are positioning yourself to receive God’s wisdom. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him.” God gives wisdom to those who ask!

If you lack wisdom for any or all of life’s decisions today, I encourage you to stop looking everywhere for direction. Get alone with God and his word. Ask God for his wisdom concerning whatever decision it is you need to make. Then, get quiet and listen to what he has to say to you. Receiving direction from God is receiving the wisdom of God!
