The Sin of Worry

Philippians 4:6 (AMP)

Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.

Many Christians today would get upset if you told them they were living in sin. They usually would respond, “I am faithful to my spouse, I go to church, I earn an honest living, and I love my family.” These things are all great and right, but are you trusting God with all that is going on in your life?

It is very true that the devil seems to be working overtime in the world and in the lives of believers. If you focus on the world and your problems, great concern, or worry as the Bible calls it, may arise. You can become distracted, weighed down, and robbed of the peace of God you once possessed. Simply put, you are worried.

This message is not an attack. Probably every person reading this has been in this situation, including myself, but that doesn’t change what the Bible has to say about worry. In Matthew 6:27 Jesus said, “Which of you by taking thought (being anxious, worrying) can add one cubit unto his stature?” In other words, there is absolutely no benefit to worry! No matter how bad things are in your life, you worrying about them will never make them better! The worse part about worry is that it is simply proof that we do not trust God.

What should we do? Our passage above tells us not to be worried or anxious about anything, but to go to God in prayer. This is our answer! Stop worrying and cast your cares on God! As you trust him, he will do what you could never do on your own, he can fix what you could never fix on your own! Regardless of your situation, the word works!
