The Sin of Comparison

Galatians 6:4 NLT
Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

You don’t need to compare yourself to anyone else! That is a much needed revelation for Christians today. So many people are unhappy and robbed of the joy that’s available to them because they spend all their time comparing themselves and their families to everyone else. We need a revelation that everyone else is not our standard. The standard we are to be living by is God and his word.

You were created an original. God had a specific will, plan, and purpose for you before you were ever formed in your mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5). You cannot possibly accomplish God’s plan for someone else’s life. It is a complete waste of valuable time comparing yourself, family, or children to other people. You only need to be who God has called you to be! You only need to obey the direction God has given you!

I have dealt with this many times in ministry. I grew up with my dad as a pastor. I know and have been around many great and powerful ministers. Unintentionally, I compared myself to them. Of course, I always came up lacking and less than. This is what the devil wants you to think. Then, one morning while seeking God, the Lord spoke to me. He said, “What do I require of you?” I responded, “What Lord?” He said, “I only require what you have. You cannot give me what you do not have or possess.” At that moment I was delivered from comparison and feeling less than.

Don’t compare yourselves to others! God has gifted each of us differently so that all of us together complete the Body of Christ. Every person’s gifts are necessary! Simply be faithful to use the gifts God’s given you as he instructs you!
