Luke 5:5-6 KJV
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
In this story, Jesus has been ministering and the people were pressing in on him. He saw two ships, one of them being Peter’s, out by the lake. The fishermen were through fishing for the night and were washing their nets. Jesus asked to use one to minister from, and Peter obliged. While this was obedience on Peter’s part, it was not a great sacrifice. After all, they were done using the boats for the day. When Jesus was done preaching, he instructed Peter and the others to launch out into the deep and let down their nets for a draught. Now, this was a little different instruction. Peter and the others were fishermen by trade and had been fishing all night with minimal results. Jesus’ instruction here made no sense. Fishing was best at night. As we see in v. 5 above, Peter said, “Master, we have toiled all night, and have taken nothing: NEVERTHELESS AT THY WORD I will let down the net.” When he obeyed this instruction, that didn’t make much sense in the natural, the catch was more than they could handle! It pays to obey!
Some time back, the Lord spoke to me very boldly and said, “You must change!” He then proceeded to say the following, “Sometimes you have to walk away from everything you’ve ever known in order to walk into all that God has for you. If you aren’t willing to do this, you can live, die, and even go to heaven, but forfeit the plan of God for your life. Comfort can be your enemy.”
What is the Lord speaking to you today? What direction has he encouraged you to take that you’ve yet to obey? If you will only listen to God, he will perfectly position you to accomplish his plan for your life. The direction he’s given you may not make sense at the moment, but we must trust that Father always knows best!
Don’t be moved by what you see, how you feel, or what others think, simply step out by faith and obey God.
Never forget, if the word of God is all you have, you have all you need!
