In the years before GPS, if you were taking a trip to somewhere you’d never been, you had to get directions ahead of time. You would pull out your map and determine the best path to get to your destination. You would make note of those roads and then hit the road. Very often, because you were unfamiliar with these roads, you might miss a turn. As you continued down the wrong path you may begin to question your directions. Remember, there was no GPS to tell you to turn around.

It has been said that most men would rather be wrong than ask for directions. While this may primarily apply to men, it can apply to women as well. If you are headed in the wrong direction, the answer is never to just keep going. Often during these road trips, the wife would be constantly telling the husband to stop and ask for directions. Most women know that most men don’t need directions, or so they think. So, they just keep driving and driving, all the while getting further off track. Is this really necessary? Do we have to just keep going when we get off track? How often do we do just like the man that won’t stop and ask for directions? We may think his decision to not stop and ask is ignorant, but so is ours!

I have been in this situation in life many times. Very often it is not a pride issue where I just refuse to ask for direction. There have been different times in my life where I asked God why he didn’t speak to me about an area I needed help in. God’s response was, “You never asked me.”  He was always right. I had been so caught up in what was going on I never asked!

Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask, and it shall be given to you.” This passage is confirmed by many other scriptures as well. James 4:2 says, “… ye have not, because you ask not.” God promises us in His word that if we ask, He will answer.

Don’t be like the person driving in the wrong direction yet refusing to stop and ask for directions! If you are getting wrong results, or if you just feel in your heart that something is not right, do not keep going! Stop and ask! God has promised to answer!
