Stay in Love!

1 John 4:16 KJV

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

As Christians, our mandate is to love God first, and secondly, to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39). The church is to be set apart from the world by the way we love each other (John 13:34-35). Is loving God and others your primary goal today?

You hear very often people talking about falling in love and falling out of love. That type of love is not the love of God. That is merely natural, human love. Human love is fickle. It changes based on what others do or don’t do. It also changes based on your feelings.

God is love (1John 4:8). God has deposited this love in the heart of every Christian (Romans 5:5). It is always there whether you walk in it or not. 1 John 4:16 says, “…God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” To dwell means “to stay, abide, or continue in.” God has not only given us His love, but he has instructed us to live and stay in His love.

Remember, this love has nothing  to do with your feelings. This love has nothing to do with what others may say about you or do to you. The love of God says, “No matter what a man may do to me, I will seek nothing but his highest good.” You may curse me, you may hate me, you may even wish my destruction, but I desire nothing but your highest good. That is what love says and does!

We stay in love by obeying and applying God’s word to every circumstance, situation, and relationship. 1 John 2:5 says, “But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.” The love of God obeys the word of God. Stay in full obedience to the word of God and you will always be found walking in the love of God!
