Colossians 3:14 KJV
And above all these things put on charity (love), which is the bond of perfectness.
I have heard for years now just how much we need revival in the church. While I do not necessarily disagree with that statement, I do usually disagree with what we need a revival of. Most think that we need a revival of signs, wonders, and miracles. Some think if we could just work the worship up enough, or get the right guest speakers. Others think if we could just get our faith to a higher place we could finally receive this revival that we need. Is there anybody that thinks we need a revival of the love of God?
Every single Christian is a new creature with a new nature (2 Corinthians 5:17). This new nature is the nature of God. The nature of God is love (1 John 4:8). The primary difference that is to be seen between the world and the church is our love for one another (John 13:34-35).
The very opposite of the love of God is selfishness! Our lack of love shows up in our selfishness. We need a revelation that everything is not about us. In reality, the genuine Christian puts God first, others second, and themselves last (Matthew 22:36-39). This message of error has worked its way to the forefront of the Body of Christ today. It is received by many simply because they like it. Even though it sounds good, it is not good, and will only produce a fruitless and unfulfilling life.
The love of God only seeks the best and highest good for the objects of its affection. When I truly love God, I obey Him and put Him above anyone or anything else in my life. When I truly love others, I put their welfare and wellbeing above and ahead of my own.
If the Bible is true, and we know that it is, if I don’t have love, I have absolutely nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-4). Nothing works right and nothing will go right without the love of God. The greatest need every believer has is to daily work on developing your love walk!
Pursuing change and/or revival without love is like purchasing a brand new vehicle without fuel. Love is the fuel that makes everything work properly in your life and the church. Above all, seek love!
