Luke 17:15 KJV
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
I am not attempting to enter the debate over when to decorate your house for Christmas! I actually enjoy both Thanksgiving and Christmas! To me, they are both times to come together with family and friends and give God the thanks for all that he’s done in our lives! In reality, the days set aside for these holiday’s aren’t nearly as important as the state of your heart!
As much as I enjoy these seasons, it is also very easy for me to become frustrated as I observe all that goes on. Many tend to get so caught up in eating, fellowshipping, Black Friday shopping, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus, that they forget what really matters. Jesus is not only the reason for the season, but the reason for every day in the life of the Christian!
In our scripture above Jesus has healed ten lepers. After receiving this radically life changing healing, the responses were not the same. Luke 17:15 says, “And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God.” You read that correctly! Out of ten that Jesus healed, only one of them returned to even thank him! That seems to be the predominant attitude today, even in the church. This should not be so.
I would encourage you to not only remember to give thanks this thanksgiving, but to cultivate an attitude of gratitude every day. Philemon 1:6 says, “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” Faith in God and thanksgiving go hand in hand. Every believer has so much to be thankful for! Today I am saved, healed, delivered, protected, blessed, highly favored, and a child of the one true God! I am redeemed! I am blessed to be a blessing! The list goes on and on, but that’s a good start.
I encourage you to not only give thanks during this season, but begin daily to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Don’t focus on what’s not and who’s not, but focus on who God is and all that he’s done in your life. Begin to thank him in everything for everything and you will never be the same!
Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Be blessed!
