Do You Love God?

John 14:21

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

This is not a very popular question today! Do you love God? Most Christians would emphatically say yes. While I am not writing to question your love for God, I am writing to show you how true love reveals itself.

Last week we spoke of the Father’s Love for us. If we are going to walk with God we need to have an understanding of God’s love for us. We need to know that it never changes and it never fails. We need to be aware that God does not love us based on our current condition, but based on the fact that he is love. I have taught this for years and will continue to do so because it is the word of God!

In saying that, I have found that God is never our problem. If we have problems, it is always on our end, not God’s. Many question whether God loves them or not. I have found this is never the problem. The real question is, “Do you love God?” How will you know if you love God? Our passage above gives us the answer. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” The Vine’s Expository Dictionary of the NT says, “Love is only known by the action that it prompts.” My love is made known by my actions! If I say I love God and then live my life on my own terms, I am simply being dishonest.

Many say, “Where is God in my life?” We could say, “Where is your love?” Jesus also said in our passage above that if we loved and obeyed him he would manifest himself in our lives! Go all out today in loving God, regardless of what you are facing, and watch him show up big in your life!

Remember, God loves each of us and has already proven this in giving Jesus to die for our sins. The question is not, “Does God love us?” Do you love him today?
