Christmas: What Really Matters?

Luke 12:15 KJV

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

The Christmas rush is on! The hustle and bustle of the Christmas season has begun! It’s time for the lights, parties, food, fellowship, and days spent shopping. All in preparation for the big day, Christmas, where we finally find out if everyone received what they wanted. The question runs through many parents minds, “Will the kids be happy with what they got?” Will this Christmas be a success?

While I am not here to try and dampen your Christmas spirit, I am here to remind every Christian that these things are not what Christmas is all about! Understand, in their proper place there is nothing wrong with any of them. You should enjoy everyone and everything God has blessed you with. The Bible even tells us that while we are not to trust in riches, God gives us all things to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17). You see, possessions are not our problem. It is the place we allow them to take in our lives that becomes the problem.

In Luke 12:15 Jesus tells us, “… a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” The Good News Bible says, “ … your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be.”

As you read this article today, I encourage you to simply examine your priorities. What is your focus during this very special season? How are you guiding your children this year? Don’t forget that it’s not about the gifts, but the giver. It’s not about the blessings, but the blesser.

Christmas is about the greatest gift that has ever been given to mankind, Jesus! Remember to keep him at the front of everything you do this Christmas! Jesus is the reason for the season!
