At Thy Word

Luke 5:5 KJV

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

Are you tired? Are you worn out? Have you done all that you can do with little to no results? Do you wonder if you are even on the right path? If you answered yes to any of these, you need to turn your ears to what God is saying today.

In Luke 5:1-11 Jesus has come upon Peter and the other disciples. They’ve been fishing all night and caught nothing. They are now on the shore, cleaning up their equipment, and ready to rest. Jesus asks them if he can use their boat for a while. After using their boat for a pulpit to minister to people, Jesus gives Peter instructions. Jesus tells Peter to launch back out into the deep and let down their nets. In verse 5 Peter responded, “We have toiled all night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”

They had labored to the point of exhaustion with no results. Now they have instruction from Jesus that simply did not make sense. They were professional fishermen who had been unsuccessful doing what they knew to do. Now, Jesus was telling them to go back out. Peter said, “At thy word I will let down the net.” When they did this, they not only caught fish, but they caught so many their nets began to break and they had to call their partners to come help them get the catch in. It pays to obey God!

What is it today that God has instructed you to do? It may be so simple that it doesn’t make sense to you, or it may be so hard that it seems impossible to you. Either way, when you step out and obey God, he will make a way and you will walk in his blessings every day!
